Type of allergies during monsoons & how to prevent them
It’s very common to have one or the other allergies in monsoon season. Climate change along with high humidity leads to more people developing allergies during monsoons. Sometimes our clothes get wet, which becomes a hotbed for developing all kinds of allergies. When itching starts, patients continue to itch that area that damages the epidermis, even more, this, in turn, becomes a breeding ground for all kinds of microorganisms. Here are some tips for preventing the most common of allergies during monsoon:
Fungal infections
The dampness and humidity that the monsoon brings, make it perfect for the growth of bacteria and fungi. This is the reason so many people get fungal infections during monsoons. The most common types of fungal infections are ringworms, nail infections, and athlete’s foot.
These fungal infections are contagious so they must be treated soon. These often require treatment from a certified doctor, however, there are certain habits that can help prevent getting fungal infections in the first place, like washing the skin twice or thrice daily to keep it clean, using a good moisturizer for dry skin, keeping the oily skin clean, etc.
Facial folliculitis
This is a very common skin infection that makes the hair follicles inflamed. The inflamed area appears as small red bumps or white-headed pimples around the hair follicles. The best way to prevent this is to avoid tight clothing, wash the affected area twice daily with mild soap, keep the hair and skin clean, and drink plenty of water. Along with these, use a good moisturizer to avoid the skin becoming dry.
Allergies due to wet clothes and shoes
When wet clothes and shoes rub against the skin, it causes allergic reactions due to the chemicals present in them. They can lead to fungal infections in skin folds. If you get an allergy, consult with a dermatologist immediately. To prevent getting these allergies, change out of your wet clothes as soon as possible, clean the skin with a dry towel, and keep it dry and well moisturized.
Mold allergy
The primary allergen in the mold is a mold spore. Mold is a type of fungus that grows in moisture, either indoors or outdoors. They can happen at any time during the year but they are more prevalent in monsoons. It leads to allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and skin allergies. To prevent keep the area around dry and well ventilated.
