When the subtle character lines around our eyes aren’t subtle anymore, it makes us realise that things have changed and we look much older. Gone are the days of nonstop youthful radiance on the face and no fine lines at all. And we ask ourselves, is it possible to get back the skin we once had? Can we reverse this wrinkled skin? And the answer is yes, we can make wrinkles less prominent and delay the signs of ageing by pampering and taking care of our skin, but it is not possible to completely get rid of wrinkles. So, what are we waiting for? Let us learn ways and remedies to look a few years younger and bid goodbye to wrinkled and sagging skin. 

1. Limit sun exposure

Apply sunscreen while going outside to delay signs of ageing.

We all are aware that UV rays can damage our skin. If not taken care of, it can lead to premature ageing of the skin. Although it takes years to show signs like wrinkles, pigmentation, dry skin, sagging of skin, etc but it is important to take care of our skin from early days itself. One needs to limit the sun exposure by avoiding going outside in the afternoon, wear full sleeves clothes, hats or caps and cover yourself with scarves. Cover yourself in the shield of sunscreen even on cloudy days. 

2. Healthy fats to rescue

Nuts and seeds keeps your skin moisturised.

Rough and dry skin is another sign of ageing which makes us more prone to wrinkles. So keeping our skin moisturised by adding healthy fats in our diet can prevent or reduce wrinkles. All types of nuts (almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, peanuts), seeds (flax, pumpkin, sunflower, watermelon and muskmelon seeds) and fishes are a good source of omega 3 fatty acid. Try to have a handful of nuts and seeds everyday and a serving of fish at least 1-2 times in a week to keep your skin plump and young.

3. Drink more water

Water can solve anything to everything, and skin health is no different. Hydration helps in better absorption of nutrients and detoxification of the body. It keeps our skin nourished and hydrated which in turn prevents wrinkles and rough texture of the skin. One should try to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. Also, addition of other fluids like herbal teas, coconut water, lemon water will be great for youthful skin.

4. Burn the stress

Meditate and relieve your stress.

Stress is the biggest enemy of our health including skin health. It can reduce the production of collagen that provides elasticity to the skin and makes you more prone to wrinkles. Therefore, manage your stress levels to get wrinkle free skin. But the question is how to reduce stress? Practice meditation or involve yourself in your favourite activity, perform yoga to soothe your mind, body and soul, drink chamomile tea to calm your anxiety, get sound sleep and healthy skin.

5. Stop smoking

And here’s one more reason to stop smoking. If you are observing prominent and deep laugh lines and wrinkles around eyes smoking can be one of the reasons. Smoking narrows our blood vessels, reduces the flow of blood and nutrients to the skin causing dull and pigmented skin. It also minimises the collagen production leading to wrinkled skin. Therefore, to get rid of wrinkles, get rid of smoking.

Ageing is irreversible but collagen production can help. As we age, collagen production reduces which is one of the major causes of fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen is a protein that provides structure, texture and elasticity to the skin. Adding collagen rich food like eggs, chicken, vit C rich fruits, fish, garlic, cashews, tomatoes, etc or a supplement can help in providing plumpiness or bounce to the skin and delay signs of ageing.  

It may seem that once you start getting wrinkles there is no hope. However, with proper self-care practices and healthy habits, it is possible to get rid of wrinkles or delay the premature ageing of the skin. Try these simple yet effective steps to get healthy, wrinkle free and young skin.
